Representatives from the Trail Blazers met with Portland city councilors to talk about a new lease and the public funding needed to renovate the aging Moda Center. The meeting comes amid negotiations over a $600 million renovation project and a long‑term lease that expires in 2030.

State funds of $365 million have already been pledged, with Portland to contribute $120 million and Multnomah County adding more. New owner Tom Dundon has promised a 20‑year lease if the renovation is funded, citing the city as the best choice for the team.

Dewayne Hankins, the Blazers’ president of business operations, said the bridge lease must be amended to drop a “first‑class” NBA arena clause that could trigger legal action. He noted the team has already spent over $1 billion on the arena’s upkeep.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson stated the city will not sue the Blazers. Multnomah County will vote on its contribution on Aug. 6, and the city council on Aug. 12.
