The Boston Red Sox have agreed to a minor league contract with relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle, according to multiple reports. The 36-year-old right-hander would receive $1.5 million if added to the 40-man roster and could earn an additional $250,000 in performance bonuses during the upcoming season.

Kahnle comes off a turbulent 2025 campaign with Detroit where he posted a 4.43 ERA with nine saves over 66 appearances. The veteran reliever showed inconsistency, maintaining a 1.35 ERA through June 22 before struggling with a 14.85 ERA over his next 17 games, then rebounding with a 2.20 ERA in his final 17 appearances.

Throughout his 11-year career, Kahnle has accumulated a 3.61 ERA with 17 saves and an 11-19 record across stops with Colorado, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit. The Red Sox brass sees potential in his experience and recent World Baseball Classic performance with Israel, where he pitched two scoreless innings over two appearances.
