Veteran right-hander Max Scherzer is set to return from the injured list and start for the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, his 42nd birthday. Manager John Schneider confirmed Scherzer's return following a successful rehab outing in Triple-A Buffalo. Scherzer, who has dealt with back spasms and thumb issues, was placed on the IL in mid-June.

He has made only six starts this season for the Blue Jays, posting a 1-4 record with a 10.23 ERA. In his rehab start, he threw 56 pitches over five innings, striking out seven. Scherzer has a career record of 222-121 with a 3.27 ERA over 19 seasons and has won two World Series titles, including with the Washington Nationals in 2019.
