Liam Hendriks, a three-time All-Star reliever who overcame Stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.

The 37-year-old Australian right-hander joked in a social media post that his arm has "exactly zero fastballs left" and his elbow requires a "three-day recovery window" after throwing anything harder than a light breeze.

Hendriks spent 14 seasons with the Twins, Blue Jays, Royals, Athletics, White Sox, and Red Sox. He was an All-Star with the Athletics in 2019, recording 25 saves, and again with the White Sox in 2021 and 2022 with 38 and 37 saves respectively. Diagnosed with cancer in December 2022, he returned to the mound that May, going 2-0 with one save and a 5.40 ERA in five appearances, earning AL Comeback Player of the Year.

Injuries plagued his later career, including Tommy John surgery in August 2023. He signed a two-year deal with Boston in 2024 but didn't pitch until the following season. This year, he was with the Twins and Cubs on minor league deals. Overall, Hendriks appeared in 490 games with a 3.88 ERA, 116 saves, and was a seven-time Roberto Clement Award nominee.
