Multiple drone sightings disrupted the Colorado Rockies' first homestand against the Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field earlier this month. Law enforcement responded to over a half dozen incidents April 3-5, though no arrests were made. The FAA and FBI subsequently issued warnings to prevent future violations during upcoming home games, citing concerns about potential threats to safety and game operations.

The 3-mile airspace restriction around Coors Field begins one hour before games and continues for an hour afterward. Violators could face penalties up to $75,000 per violation and potential license revocation. While no safety incidents occurred during the initial sightings, authorities worry about potential terrorist attacks similar to those seen in conflicts overseas, as well as the distraction these incidents cause for law enforcement resources.

"Every instance of illegal drone activity requires a law enforcement intervention," FBI spokeswoman Vikki Migoya stated, explaining that resources diverted to check drones could miss actual threats. Drone operators are responsible for checking airspace restrictions before flying, as the federal government continues to invest in drone defenses for major sporting events nationwide.
