Cubs Lock Up Crow-Armstrong In Extension

Chicago Cubs and center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong are finalizing a long-term contract extension, sources confirmed Monday. The move locks up the 24-year-old breakout star who delivered the team's first 30-30 season in three decades while winning a Gold Glove for his elite defensive performance in center field.

Crow-Armstrong's first half proved especially productive, hitting .265/.302/.544 with 25 home runs and 27 stolen bases. Despite a second-half slump, his 6.0 Baseball-Reference wins above replacement last season demonstrated the value he brings with his superlative glove, arm, and baserunning instincts. The Cubs believe his offensive potential remains untapped.

Originally drafted by the Mets in 2020, Crow-Armstrong was traded to Chicago for Javier Baez and Trevor Williams in 2021. The deal immediately became regrettable for New York as Crow-Armstrong developed into a cornerstone piece. Chicago, which went 92-70 last season, now has its cornerstone locked up as they prepare to contend for the National League Central title.
