The Gold Glove winner from last season underwent an MRI on Tuesday, and manager Oliver Marmol confirmed he would not be in the lineup for the series opener against Pittsburgh. Winn described the pain as cramp-like after legging out a fielder's choice in the seventh inning.

Winn entered the season hitting .255 with a home run and 17 RBI, making him one of the more productive players in St. Louis' lineup. Marmol said the team wants to avoid pushing through any discomfort and will wait for the MRI results before deciding his availability. St. Louis is already without one of its top contributors as the season progresses.
