Boone Rejects Chapman Apology Demand Over 2022 Playoff Snub

Aaron Boone shut down Aroldis Chapman's request for an apology regarding the pitcher's 2022 playoff discipline, stating the decision was justified based on Chapman missing a mandatory workout. Chapman maintained he deserved an apology from Yankees GM Brian Cashman after being ruled out of the divisional series against Cleveland.

The controversy stemmed from Chapman's absence during a crucial team workout, compounded by his earlier injury list stint from Aug. 24-Sept. 16 due to a leg infection from getting a tattoo. Boone emphasized that Chapman wasn't present when it mattered most and he made the choice he believed was best for the club's success at that time.

Chapman's post-Yankees career includes a trade to Texas at the 2023 deadline, where he won his second World Series title. He pitched for Pittsburgh in 2024 before signing with Boston in 2025. The veteran reliever is now 0-1 with a 0.46 ERA and 13 saves in 13 chances for the last-place Red Sox.

Currently on a one-year, $13.3 million contract, Chapman continues performing despite the ongoing tension with his former team. The dispute highlights how quickly relationships can sour in professional sports, even between successful players and organizations.
