Astros Ace Hunter Brown Placed on Injured List with Shoulder Strain

Hunter Brown has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder strain, sidelining the Astros' ace for at least two weeks. The right-hander last pitched on Tuesday, striking out eight batters over six innings in a win over Boston. Brown's season started strong, with a 0.84 ERA and 17 strikeouts in his first two starts, but this injury threatens his season.

Brown emerged as Houston's clear ace after Framber Valdez's free agency departure. Last season, he led the staff with a 2.43 ERA, 6.1 WAR, and finished third in AL Cy Young voting. His 2024 breakout season followed early career struggles, making this setback significant for both his career and the Astros' playoff hopes.

In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled right-hander Christian Roa from Triple-A Sugarland to fill the rotation vacancy. Roa will face the immediate challenge of replacing Brown's production as the team adjusts to losing their top starter for at least the next fortnight.
