WNBA Suspends Alyssa Thomas After Caitlin Clark Hit

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White expressed frustration over officiating after the WNBA issued a one-game suspension to Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas. The league reviewed footage of Wednesday's contest and determined Thomas committed a non-basketball act by striking Caitlin Clark in the throat area. While White welcomed the punishment, she criticized officials for failing to call the foul immediately.

During the Mercury's 111-109 victory, Thomas appeared to thrust her fist into Clark's neck during a scramble for the ball. Officials missed the contact during live play, which White attributed to a lack of eye discipline. The league eventually upgraded the incident to a flagrant foul 2 penalty following their post-game investigation into the physical contact.

Clark's availability remains uncertain after she exited the game with a back injury. She is officially ruled out for Saturday's matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks. The star player will not return to action until July 5 against the Las Vegas Aces, leaving the Fever without their primary playmaker for nearly two weeks.
