Oregon State men's basketball coach Wayne Tinkle will not return for a 13th season, the school announced Thursday. Tinkle has been asked to finish the current season, with athletic director Scott Barnes telling ESPN the program needs to transition to its next chapter as the Beavers prepare for the new Pac-12 era.

Tinkle's tenure included a memorable 2021 Elite Eight run where Oregon State, as a 12-seed, upset Tennessee, Oklahoma State and Loyola Chicago to reach the regional final. That tournament success earned him a lucrative four-year contract extension, though the Beavers have struggled recently with a 14-12 record this season. Tinkle finishes his Oregon State career with a 176-204 record over 12 seasons.

Before Corvallis, Tinkle spent eight years at Montana, leading the Grizzlies to three NCAA tournament appearances and two Big Sky regular-season titles. Oregon State, which played the past two seasons in the West Coast Conference after the Pac-12's collapse, returns to a revamped Pac-12 next season alongside Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State.
