Neoklis Avdalas, a 6-foot-9 Greek forward, has committed to North Carolina, giving new coach Michael Malone his first significant addition with the Tar Heels. Avdalas averaged 12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists as a freshman at Virginia Tech, showcasing his versatility as a playmaking forward.

The commitment comes after Avdalas explored the NBA draft last spring before withdrawing. His freshman season featured dramatic fluctuations, including a career-high 33-point performance early on, but he struggled with inconsistent shooting against ACC competition, hitting just 34.7% from the field. He showed promise with a three-game stretch averaging 17 points while shooting 52.4% from 3-point range.

Malone continues to rebuild UNC's roster after seven players entered the transfer portal. Key players Jaydon Young, Jarin Stevenson, and top-25 recruit Maximo Adams have committed to staying. The Tar Heels also secured commitments for coaching staff, hiring Arkansas' Chuck Martin as associate head coach and adding former Providence head coach Kim English to Malone's staff.
