Former college football coach and current U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has won the Republican nomination for Alabama governor. Tuberville, who coached Auburn from 1999 to 2008, entered politics with his 2020 Senate election and opted against seeking a second term, setting his sights on the state's highest office.

President Donald Trump has endorsed Tuberville's gubernatorial bid, writing on social media that he has his "Complete and Total Endorsement" and that "COACH TUBERVILLE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" The November contest could feature a rematch between Tuberville and former Democratic Senator Doug Jones, whom he defeated in 2020 with Trump's support.

During the primary, opponent Ken McFeeters challenged Tuberville's residency qualifications, though the Alabama Republican Party dismissed the complaint. Tuberville's football career includes eight consecutive bowl appearances at Auburn and one SEC championship, giving him name recognition that could prove valuable in the general election against Jones, the last Democrat to win statewide office in Alabama.
