No. 13 Texas Tech suffered a 72-67 upset at Arizona State on Tuesday night as star forward JT Toppin exited with a lower leg injury late in the second half. The preseason All-America selection, averaging 21.9 points, drove to the basket with 6:03 remaining before collapsing in a heap and needing assistance to leave the contest.

Toppin finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four blocks before his injury forced him to the bench. Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland confirmed the injury was to Toppin's lower leg but couldn't assess its severity immediately. The Red Raiders, who had been riding a three-game winning streak, appeared shaken after losing their star player with the score at 61-56.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Texas Tech, which had just defeated then-No. 1 Arizona in overtime. For Arizona State, the victory marked their first over a ranked opponent since January 2025 and provided a much-needed boost for embattled coach Bobby Hurley during his 11th season in Tempe. Despite rallying to within 70-67 late, Texas Tech couldn't complete the comeback after Christian Anderson's turnover with seconds remaining.
