Reche Caldwell Murder Case Remains Unsolved Six Years Later

Home security footage from June 6, 2020 captured Reche Caldwell's final moments outside his east Tampa home. The former NFL wide receiver was shot multiple times and died before reaching the hospital, leaving behind the haunting last words: "Tell everybody I love them." Now six years later, his family faces mounting frustration as Tampa Police have made no arrests despite possessing the murder weapon and fingerprint evidence.

Caldwell's post-football life spiraled into legal troubles that may have connected to his death. After dropping a crucial pass in the 2007 AFC Championship Game, his NFL career ended abruptly. He served federal prison time for drug dealing and later pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud just days before his murder. His brother Andre, also a former NFL player, acknowledged that Caldwell never "figured it out" after football, falling back into old neighborhood habits including gambling.

The family points to several potential motives. Caldwell managed rapper Roboy through a business venture with his brother, and had recently mediated a conflict involving the artist. His habit of storing gambling winnings in coffee cans meant large amounts of cash were accessible. Most troubling to his mother Deborah Caldwell, the killer left behind thousands of dollars and his gold chain, suggesting this was indeed a hit.

Frustration grows as communication breaks down between investigators and the family. Caldwell's daughter Recheyla hasn't heard from the lead detective since July 2025, despite police having physical evidence. "If you have the weapon, you have fingerprints ... what's the issue?" she asked. The case remains open with no public suspect identification or motive explanation, leaving a grieving family seeking answers that seem increasingly elusive.
