The Ramla Ali biopic 'In the Shadows' is in its final week of filming in Malindi, Kenya, where the subject is recreating her early childhood experiences from her Somali family's journey. The production faces intense emotional challenges as Ramla Ali, a boxer, philanthropist, and model, works on the film for seven years. A pivotal scene depicts her brother's death during the 1988 civil war, with his body carried to hospital in a wheelbarrow.
On set, Ali is overwhelmed and walks away to cry freely in Malindi, away from the cameras and her past. The story traces her family's path from Somalia to Kenya, Dubai, and England, including her secret boxing activities at age 13 to combat bullying. Her husband Richard Moore insists they leave the set despite the emotional strain.
Meanwhile, co-star Letitia Wright and boxer Tiara Brown are preparing for Ali's role in the film, which is based on her life story.
