Oklahoma Edges LSU for Fourth Gymnastics Title in Five Years

Oklahoma secured its fourth NCAA women's gymnastics title in five seasons Saturday, edging out LSU in a nail-biting finish at Fort Worth. Senior Faith Torrez provided the definitive moment, delivering a 9.950 on floor exercise as the final competitor. The Sooners posted a team total of 198.1625, just barely topping the Tigers’ 198.0750 score line.

LSU had mounted a serious challenge, briefly taking the lead after Kailin Chio posted the first perfect 10 at nationals since 2023 on vault. That slim 0.0750 advantage evaporated late when LSU’s Lexi Zeiss suffered a fall on the balance beam during the final rotation.

Torrez, who also claimed the NCAA all-around title earlier in the week despite battling injuries, maintained her composure under immense pressure. Her near-perfect floor routine forced LSU’s last competitor, Chio, to score higher than her own impressive 9.900 to claim victory, which she could not manage.

This victory marks Oklahoma’s eighth championship since 2014 and their second consecutive team trophy. The dramatic conclusion demonstrated the razor-thin margins separating the nation's elite programs, solidifying the Sooners' recent dynasty in the sport.
