NCAA Implements Betting Monitoring for Tournament Officials

The NCAA announced it will use ProhiBet technology to monitor basketball, baseball, and softball officials during this year's championship tournaments. The system, developed by Integrity Compliance 360, crosschecks anonymized identification data with sportsbooks to flag any betting activity by officials. This marks the first time the technology will be used to monitor officials at NCAA championship events.

Officials working the men's and women's basketball tournaments, totaling more than 220 including alternates, will have their information uploaded to the ProhiBet system where it will be anonymized and crosschecked against customer data at participating sportsbooks. The NCAA already prohibits officials from betting on sports, similar to rules for student-athletes and coaches. Background checks remain part of the eligibility process for postseason assignments.

If violations are discovered, the NCAA may remove referees from championship duties. More than two dozen U.S. sportsbooks use ProhiBet, and many NCAA schools and conferences have already implemented the technology. The NCAA's managing director of enforcement called this a major step in increasing integrity protections for college sports.
