NCAA Bars Iona's Adam Njie Jr. Over Point‑Shaving Allegations

Adam Njie Jr., a former Iona guard, was declared ineligible by the NCAA after the governing body uncovered evidence of his involvement in a point‑shaving plot. The investigation traced back to December 2024, when Njie allegedly shared inside information with a bettor ahead of a game against Rice.

During the first half of the Dec. 1 matchup, Njie reportedly told a bettor he would throw the opening phase, but the plan never materialised. The bettor placed three wagers totaling $15,500 on Rice covering the spread. Iona tied at halftime and ultimately covered, wiping out the bets.

After the Rice game, the same bettor threatened Njie with physical harm and plotted to fix Iona’s next outing against Sacred Heart. The NCAA found evidence that Njie again denied any manipulation. He had transferred to Dayton in 2025, sat out last season amid investigations, and moved to Hampton in May.

The NCAA’s ruling removes Njie from competition, tightening a broader probe that has exposed dozens of players across college basketball. While he was not charged in the federal indictment, the case underscores the league’s resolve to eradicate gambling corruption. Iona’s program now faces scrutiny as it rebuilds trust among stakeholders.
