Iowa pulled off a stunning NCAA tournament upset, defeating top-seeded Florida 73-72 on a last-second 3-pointer by Alvaro Folgueiras. The ninth-seeded Hawkeyes ended the defending national champions' season in the second round, marking the first time a No. 1 seed had been eliminated from this year's March Madness. Under first-year coach Ben McCollum, Iowa reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015.

Florida, coming off a dominant 59-point victory over Prairie View A&M, looked unprepared for a real test. The Gators played in front of a pro-Florida crowd at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, but couldn't close out the game. Xaivian Lee's layup put Florida ahead 71-68 with under two minutes left, but Iowa rallied. After Isaiah Brown grabbed a crucial rebound with 8.9 seconds remaining, Folgueiras found himself wide open in the corner for the game-winning shot.

Tavion Banks led Iowa with 20 points, while Folgueiras added 14 and Bennett Stirtz finished with 13 despite shooting just 5-of-16. Alex Condon topped Florida with 21 points, but the Gators' 27-8 season ended in shocking fashion. The loss highlighted how Florida's easy path through the first round may have left them unprepared for Iowa's tournament-tested resilience.
