Giannis Trade Talks Heat Up Before 2026 NBA Draft

With the NBA draft approaching, the Milwaukee Bucks are now open to trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo after keeping him through the February deadline. The two-time MVP has two years left on his deal, with the second year a $62.8M player option, making him eligible for a four-year, $275M extension starting Oct. 1.

The Golden State Warriors emerge as a potential suitor, possessing the 11th pick and the ability to trade four first-round selections. However, they would need to include Draymond Green's $27.7M salary to match any deal, with Curry, Butler, and Green constituting 79% of their payroll, leaving little flexibility for roster additions post-trade.

Miami presents another pathway, holding the 13th pick and first-rounders in 2031 and 2033. The Heat, who missed the playoffs for the first time since 2019, could have enough cap space next summer to sign Giannis outright while retaining young assets. Their challenge involves avoiding the second apron hard cap by sending out more salary than received in any trade.
