Higgo arrived one minute late to his 7:18 a.m. Thursday tee time at Aronimink Golf Club, violating PGA rules requiring presence on the tee box at the scheduled moment. Video captured him sprinting to the first hole as Gaugert screamed for him to hurry. The resulting two-shot penalty transformed what would have been a 67 into a 69.

The penalty proved especially damaging when Higgo missed the cut by a single stroke the following day. Known for his laid-back approach, Higgo admitted his casual attitude toward punctuality backfired, saying five minutes early should have been sufficient but he became too relaxed about reaching the tee box on time.
