ESPN's 2025-26 College Football Player Rank list sparked debate over its top 10 selections. While Fernando Mendoza was a lock at No. 1 after his Heisman and national title with Indiana, several reporters argued other stars were snubbed. The discussion centered on elite offensive linemen and running backs who dominated the season but were overlooked for the final spots.

Miami right tackle Francis Mauigoa and Utah's Spencer Fano were prime examples. Mauigoa allowed just a 1.3% pressure rate, while Fano won the Outland Trophy. In the backfield, Missouri's Ahmad Hardy led Power 4 rushers with 1,649 yards, and Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy posted 1,567 yards and 24 TDs. These players were deemed more deserving than some who made the cut.

The debate extended beyond the top 10. Analysts pushed for Miami freshman WR Malachi Toney (109 catches, 1,211 yards) and Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia, a Heisman runner-up, to be ranked higher. Meanwhile, unranked players like Michigan's Derrick Moore and Penn State's Kaytron Allen were cited as glaring omissions who warranted a spot on the list.
