Colorado freshman quarterback Julian Lewis connected with tight end Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining, securing a 14-13 victory over Georgia Tech in their season opener. Georgia Tech had opportunity to tie the game with a 45-yard field goal but Boo Carter blocked Aidan Birr's attempt. The win marks Colorado as the first FBS team to end a season opener by blocking a field goal as time expired since Northern Illinois did it in 2021 - also against Georgia Tech.

Deion Sanders praised Lewis, saying he "took advantage of the moment" after halftime encouragement. Lewis completed 14-of-27 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Tech's Rahkeem Smith returned the opening kick 100 yards for a touchdown, tying the score.

The program's first kick return for a TD since Jahmyr Gibbs in 2021. Colorado's Micah Welch scored on a 5-yard rush in the second quarter before Smith's return. Georgia Tech quarterback Alberto Mendoza finished 17-of-23 for 237 yards.
