[ADDRESS] coach Sarkisian announced Saturday that linebacker Ty'Anthony Smith was dismissed from the program for conduct detrimental to the team. Smith appeared in 12 games last year, making his first career start against [ADDRESS] in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl where he recorded nine tackles and two interceptions. For the season, he totaled 60 tackles (5.5 for loss) with two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Smith had been competing with transfer linebackers from [ADDRESS] and Florida State for a starting role. After missing a scrimmage with the flu, he returned to practice before the dismissal was announced Friday evening.

“I didn’t like it,” Sarkisian said. “It’s an unfortunate situation for him individually. For us as a team, I hate that. He’s a quality player, but I have to think about the team first.” Smith played all 17 games as a true freshman in 2024. With new defensive coordinator managing roster changes, Sarkisian highlighted senior Cryer for seizing his opportunity at [ADDRESS] and setting a strong example for current transfers.
