Chloe Kim's quest for a third consecutive Olympic gold medal in women's halfpipe snowboarding ended in disappointment on Thursday in Livigno, Italy. The 25-year-old American finished second to 17-year-old South Korean Choi Gaon, who scored 90.25 on her final run to claim gold.

Kim, who had won back-to-back titles in Pyeongchang and Beijing, had one final opportunity to reclaim the lead but wiped out on her third run. Japan's Mitsuki Ono took bronze. Choi's victory marks the first time a non-American woman has won gold in snowboarding's premier event since Australia's Torah Bright in 2010.

The silver medal continues a trend at these Games, with multiple two-time defending champions failing to secure three consecutive golds. Czech Ester Ledecka and Austria's Anna Gasser also fell short in their respective events. Kim's boyfriend, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, was in attendance to support her alongside other notable figures including Snoop Dogg.
