American skier Breezy Johnson received an unexpected gift at the Milan Cortina Olympics when her longtime boyfriend Connor Watkins proposed to her after her super-G race. The proposal came just an hour after Johnson crashed out of medal contention when her right pole clipped a gate and sent her tumbling into the catch fence.

The joyful moment unfolded near the finish line with members of the U.S. ski team present. Watkins, who works in construction and met Johnson on a dating app, surprised her with a ring featuring blue and white sapphires set in white gold. He proposed while reciting lyrics from Taylor Swift's song "Alchemy," and Johnson tearfully accepted before turning the ring toward cameras.

Johnson described the proposal as "fitting" given the Olympic setting, noting the mystique surrounding the Games. The couple's relationship began when Watkins, initially unaware of Johnson's skiing career, asked about her profession during their first date. After the crash left her feeling "kind of stupid," Johnson said having Watkins there was exactly what she needed. The American star, who won downhill gold earlier in the Games, called the engagement an extra peak to her already surreal Olympic experience.
