Olympic champion Alysa Liu received the key to Oakland during a hometown rally celebrating her historic gold medal performances. The 20-year-old figure skater, who won two golds at the 2026 Winter Olympics, was honored by Mayor Barbara Lee and City Councilmember Ken Houston for bringing national attention to her hometown.

Liu became the first American woman to win Olympic figure skating gold in over two decades at the Milan Games. Throughout the competition, she proudly represented Oakland with her signature "Oakland shoutout!" and "From the Bay!" declarations, showing her commitment to her roots while achieving athletic greatness on the world stage.

The celebration outside City Hall featured performances by Bay Area natives G-Eazy and Grammy winner Kehlani, along with mascots from local sports teams including the Oakland Ballers and Golden State Valkyries. The event highlighted Liu's status as a hometown hero who has inspired a new generation of athletes from the Bay Area.
