NHL Injuries & Player Updates
Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews left Thursday's game espn.com against Anaheim after absorbing a knee-on-knee hit from Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas in the second period. The team has not provided a timeline for Matthews' return, though early reports suggest he avoided serious knee ligament damage. His absence compounds Toronto's injury woes, with the team already missing key forwards William Nylander and Mitch Marner for various ailments. The NHL is reviewing Gudas' hit for potential supplemental discipline, as the 35-year-old defenseman has a history of controversial on-ice incidents. Toronto's medical staff will evaluate Matthews' condition ahead of Saturday's home game against New Jersey.
