MLB Injury & Scheduling Updates
Padres starter Joe Musgrove is projected to begin the season on the injured list as he continues his recovery from last year's Tommy John surgery, creating an early rotation gap for San Diego. Conversely, the Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed that World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound for the March 26 season opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In international play, Team Italy has adjusted its World Baseball Classic semifinal strategy, tapping Aaron Nola to start against Venezuela instead of Michael Lorenzen, a move that comes as Team Venezuela finds unity amid domestic turmoil.
Technology & Minor League Rollout
Major League Baseball advancing umpire technology by expanding the robot umpire system for challenging checked swing calls from Class A facilities up to the Triple-A level. This testing phase indicates the league’s willingness to integrate automated strike zone elements into higher levels of the minor leagues ahead of any potential major league implementation.
