Discipline & Injury Updates
Major League Baseball handed down suspensions following Tuesday's confrontation, as Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez & Angels outfielder Jorge Soler received matching seven-game bans for their involvement in the benches-clearing incident at Angel Stadium. Injury woes mounted for the Houston Astros Wednesday, as center fielder Jake Meyers departed early due to back tightness, followed shortly by right-hander Cristian Javier, who cited shoulder tightness. The Seattle Mariners also made roster moves, placing outfielder Victor Robles on the 10-day injured list with a right pectoral strain and calling up Connor Joe from Triple-A Tacoma as a replacement.
Roster Shifts & Tributes
In Chicago, the struggling White Sox demoted Opening Day starter Shane Smith to the minor leagues as the team attempts to reset its pitching rotation amidst a difficult start to the season. Separately, the baseball community mourned the loss of a former star, as Davey Lopes, the speedy four-time All-Star who helped the Dodgers secure the 1981 World Series title, passed away at age 80 following a protracted battle with Parkinson's disease.
