Carroll thanks public for support over sexual assault

Former England striker Andy Carroll, 36, has thanked the public for their support after speaking out about being sexually assaulted in 2021 at his Newcastle home. The incident occurred during his second spell at the club, and the perpetrator, Kevin Adams — a friend of Carroll's former partner — was jailed for 20 months in 2023. Carroll identified Adams, a former BBC Fame Academy contestant, in a Sun interview.

In the Football Uncensored podcast, Carroll revealed he feared he would never recover from the trauma. He described throwing the man unconscious after he tried to re-enter his home. Carroll detailed the attack in his autobiography 'Owning It' and described giving court evidence as "humiliating and embarrassing and absolutely horrendous." He credited the overwhelming public support for helping him move forward.

Carroll now plays for and co-owns National League South side Dagenham. Adams has not commented publicly since being named. BBC Action Line provides details of help and support with sexual abuse or violence.
