### Blue Origin Reuses New Glenn Booster But Satellite Fails to Reach Orbit

Blue Origin achieved a major milestone by successfully landing and reusing its New Glenn first-stage booster for the first time, but the mission was marred by a payload failure. The booster, named "Never Tell me the Odds," touched down on a recovery ship after its second flight — just the third New Glenn mission overall. However, the communications satellite it was carrying failed to reach the correct orbit.

The BlueBird 7 satellite from AST SpaceMobile was supposed to be placed into a **285-mile orbit**, but telemetry showed it only reached **95 miles** — far too low to sustain operations with its on-board thruster technology. The satellite separated from the vehicle and powered on successfully, but the insufficient altitude means it will de-orbit. AST SpaceMobile expects to recover the satellite's cost through insurance. The upper stage was supposed to complete two burns to position the satellite correctly, but something went wrong — the cause remains under investigation.

This was Blue Origin's first commercial mission, making the partial success bittersweet. The company can celebrate achieving booster reuse on just its third flight — compare that to SpaceX, which needed **32 flights** before its first successful reflight of an orbital-class booster. The stakes are high: Blue Origin's next flight will carry 48 Amazon Leo broadband satellites to expand that constellation beyond its current 241 satellites.
