Stockholm-based Redpine announced a €6.8M seed round led by NordicNinja, with backing from Luminar Ventures and Node.vc. The startup builds an API connecting AI agents to premium, non-public data repositories, addressing a critical gap in training datasets. "The internet contains only 1% of the world’s data," CEO Anders Hammarbäck explains, emphasizing the need to access archives, databases, and licensed materials for AI precision. Co-founder David Österdahl, a Spotify alum, compares Redpine to a "data streaming service," licensing content directly from rights holders like Spotify did with music labels.

The company operates on a revenue-sharing model, charging AI firms per word or token consumed, ensuring transparency and fair compensation for data creators. Redpine already partners with biotech firm AsedaSciences and engages with major US AI labs, including investors from OpenAI and Perplexity. Funds will accelerate global expansion and platform development, targeting sectors like clinical research, legal databases, and financial markets.

By bridging data owners and AI developers, Redpine aims to monetize "fantastically valuable" human-created data often siloed in institutions.
