Maine Public Employees’ Retirement System (Maine PERS) has finalized plans to slash its private equity allocation to 10 percent, down from 12.5 percent. The pension fund outlined this strategy during its March 12 board meeting, signaling a significant shift towards greater liquidity and reduced exposure to the asset class. This move, first hinted at last September, aims to mitigate the impact of stagnant exits and improve the fund's cash position. Maine PERS expects to cut pacing commitments over the next three years, targeting a reduction from over $3 billion this year to approximately $2.5 billion by 2028. Staff members emphasized the need for caution due to ongoing secondaries market activity.
