KPS Asia Eyes Japan Take-Privates, Carve-Outs

KPS Capital Partners has opened its first Asia outpost in Tokyo, positioning itself at the intersection of two Japan tailwinds: a wave of corporate carve-outs and take-private deals, and a warm welcome from local LPs.

The New York-headquartered manufacturing and industrials specialist appointed Takajiro "Tak" Ishikawa – former president and chief executive of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America – as president of KPS Asia to lead investments in the region.

Ishikawa's appointment signals KPS Capital Partners' serious commitment to the Japanese market, where corporate governance reforms and shareholder activism are driving increased deal flow for private equity firms specializing in operational turnarounds.

The firm's focus on manufacturing and industrials aligns with Japan's ongoing industrial restructuring, creating opportunities for both carve-outs from conglomerates and take-private transactions of undervalued public companies.
