PE firms invest in senior care market

Private equity firms are actively targeting the senior care market, driven by the approaching "80-year-old boom" of baby boomers and a growing supply-demand imbalance. This demographic shift, with the first boomers turning 80 in 2026, is projected to significantly increase demand for senior care services, from housing to nutrition.

Recent transactions highlight this trend. Health Wave Partners acquired memory care community Alamar Senior Living, while Brightstar Capital Partners purchased healthcare architecture firm Erdman. Hidden River Strategic Capital invested in Northstar Senior Living, and Goldman Sachs-backed Xpress Wellness acquired Midwest Counseling Services. Pacific Avenue Capital Partners completed the acquisition of Care.com, and Conscious Capital and Petra Capital Partners bought RD Nutrition Consultants. Main Post Partners also acquired senior care provider Home Well Care Services.

These deals reflect a strategic move by PE firms to capitalize on the expanding senior care sector, addressing both demand growth and opportunities for market consolidation through strategic divestitures and operator exits.
