BGF has completed a multimillion-pound minority investment in Harley Haddow, an Edinburgh-headquartered engineering consultancy. The capital will help management accelerate growth through organic expansion and selective acquisitions across the UK.
Harley Haddow specializes in mechanical and electrical engineering, geotechnical, civil and structural engineering, fire engineering, and building performance and sustainability. More than 80 percent of its live projects focus on decarbonization or net zero. The company works across the public and private sectors, with cultural and heritage work including the BAFTA headquarters and the V&A in London, SWG3 in Glasgow, and the ongoing renovation of the glasshouses at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
Founded in 1950, Harley Haddow has opened three offices in England and acquired specialist consultancy Pillar Fire over the past four years. The firm has grown its team to nearly 200 people.
As part of the deal, Marc Mc Luskey, currently a director at Harley Haddow, will become chief executive. Charles Layfield joins the business as non-executive chair through BGF's Talent Network. He has carried out more than 30 acquisitions during his career. BGF has previously backed engineering and built environment businesses, including Hydrock and BB7, both of which it has since exited.
