Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz once again led venture capital investments in last year's unicorn class, backing the most companies that reached billion-dollar valuations in 2025. A total of 187 companies joined the Crunchbase Unicorn Board last year, marking a 61% increase from 2024 and driven largely by the AI boom.

While traditional powerhouses dominated deal counts, several rising investors made significant moves up the rankings. Redpoint, Felicis, Ribbit Capital, 8VC, and Amplify Partners all climbed from lower positions to join the top tier of unicorn backers. These firms identified emerging category leaders early, positioning themselves for future returns.

AI-native companies accounted for 25% of new unicorns in 2025, with nearly half of all new unicorns being less than five years old. The competition to back the next wave of market-defining companies has intensified as markets move faster than ever, with cutting-edge startups facing potential disruption from rapid AI advancements.
