Active startup investors maintained strong momentum in July, with several familiar names topping key metrics. Khosla Ventures led the pack among lead investors in rounds of $5 million or more, participating in eight deals including a $300 million Series A for quantum computing startup Oratomic and a $120 million Series C for AI-enabled legal tech provider Norm AI. Insight Partners and Andreessen Horowitz followed with six and five lead deals, respectively.

When expanding to all investors in large rounds, Y Combinator remained the busiest overall, participating in at least 19 deals. Insight Partners and Andreessen Horowitz each recorded 10 deals, while Khosla Ventures and Index Ventures had nine apiece.

On the spending side, Coatue emerged as the highest-spending lead investor, backing a $10 billion financing for Jeff Bezos' rocket company Blue Origin. Nvidia also made a major move with a $5 billion investment in AI startup Safe Superintelligence. Index Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz each led or co-led rounds collectively valued above $2 billion.

At the seed stage, Y Combinator was the most prolific investor, joined by repeat players like Lvl Up Ventures and Alumni Ventures.
