Chariot Raises $10M to Fight Hidden Fees and Subscriptions

Chariot Claims, a New York-based startup, has raised $10 million in Series A funding led by Silverton Partners to help consumers pursue claims over alleged privacy violations, hidden fees and subscriptions that are difficult to cancel. Indicator Ventures, Lightbank, Neon Fund, ZVC, Rosecliff Ventures, Alumni Ventures, FJ Labs, Graph Ventures and Vermilion Ventures also participated in the financing. The round brings the company's total funding to $15.7 million, including a $3.6 million seed investment in April 2025 and an earlier pre-seed round.

Founder and CEO Zim Hang came to the idea while helping another founder build an app for class-action settlements. He discovered mass arbitration, a way to pursue individual claims when company contracts prevent customers from joining class actions, but found that few law firms were set up to manage thousands of those claims at once. Chariot works with law firms to identify potential cases, find affected consumers and gather the information needed to pursue compensation. Consumers complete an intake questionnaire that assesses preliminary eligibility, and Chariot's team reviews the pre-qualified claims through a mix of technology and human oversight before passing them to the partner firm.

Hang said Chariot typically receives more than 200,000 claim submissions per month and has taken on roughly 80 cases since shifting to its current model just over a year ago. The company has about 15 employees and is currently breaking even. It plans to use the new funding mainly for hiring and product development, including AI tools to review cases.

The funding comes amid a surge in legal tech investment. Funding to the sector hit a record $4.6 billion last year, according to Crunchbase data, and legal tech startups have already raised more than $3 billion so far this year. Chariot charges partner firms flat service fees, while the firms work on a contingency basis. Hang stressed that Chariot is not a law firm and does not file claims itself.
