Apple has released watchOS 26.4, the fourth major update to its smartwatch operating system since September. The update arrives a month and a half after watchOS 26.3 and requires an iPhone running iOS 26.4 for installation. Users need at least 50 percent battery and must place their Apple Watch on a charger to complete the update.

watchOS 26.4 introduces several enhancements aimed at improving user experience. The Workout app now features a workout type icon that lets users start exercises with a single tap, streamlining the process for fitness tracking. Apple also added support for the new AirPods Max 2, expanding audio compatibility for Apple Watch users.

The update includes eight new emoji characters: orca, trombone, treasure chest, fight cloud, hairy creature, landslide, ballet dancer, and distorted face. These additions join other bug fixes and security improvements included in the release. More details about watchOS 26 features can be found in MacRumors' comprehensive watchOS 26 roundup.
