Apple this week introduced an all-new HomeView smart home hub, but popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee is "not convinced" about it.
In his HomeView impressions video on his YouTube channel MKBHD, Brownlee said "I cannot figure any group that this is actually ideal for." He argued the device has a lot of overlap with other Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and HomePod.
Brownlee said HomeView does not provide enough "extra value," leading him to believe the device should be "a skip for most people." He noted that HomeView lacks an App Store, which limits its usefulness, but it can also display CarPlay-enabled audio and video apps from a paired iPhone.
The HomeView is positioned as a shared household device with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display and Siri AI. Apple says it recognizes faces to shift from a household screen to a personal experience for each user. Readers are invited to share whether they think HomeView is a useful addition to the Apple ecosystem.
