Mahindra to Add Apple Car Key Support to Future Models

MacRumors uncovered backend changes in Apple’s Wallet app that point to Apple Car Key support arriving in upcoming Mahindra models. The Indian automaker, known for its compact SUVs and electric offerings, appears to be preparing its next‑generation vehicles for NFC‑based digital keys. If confirmed, owners could unlock and start cars with an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Car Keys stores a virtual key in Wallet and communicates via NFC when the device is held near the car’s reader. Mahindra already enables Samsung Wallet’s Digital Car Key for Galaxy phones, but it lacks native Apple integration, meaning the manufacturer must add support to future models. At minimum, the feature replicates lock, unlock and engine start functions of a physical key.

Since its 2022 debut, Apple Car Key has been adopted by brands such as BMW, Rivian, Kia and Hyundai, and Apple maintains a live list of compatible models. Adding Mahindra to that roster would give Indian consumers seamless iPhone‑based access, potentially widening the ecosystem in a market where Samsung already has a foothold. The code change suggests Apple is ready to roll out the capability soon.
