MacBook Air Faces Major Shortage After $200 Price Hike

Apple raised the MacBook Air’s price in June, adding roughly $200 to the base model. Despite the hike, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports a "major" shortage. Retailers say new shipments are constrained and stock is hard to keep in stores. The shortage is especially pronounced for configurations with higher RAM.

The problem stems from a global memory‑chip shortage that has driven up the cost of RAM and SSD components. Companies building AI data centers are driving demand for these chips, squeezing supply for Apple products. The MacBook Air is now joined by the Mac Studio and Mac mini in the affected lineup.

In the U.S., the online store indicates a 2‑6 week delivery time for the MacBook Air, with delays longest for higher‑RAM models. The base price now starts at $1,299, up from $1,099. Even with the price increase, Apple is struggling to meet demand.

Apple announced a $200 price hike for 14 products, including the MacBook Air, in June. The shortage highlights the company’s supply chain challenges amid rising demand for AI‑ready machines. Buyers may need to wait weeks before securing a laptop.
