iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery Leap Leaves Pro Behind

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max is shaping up to deliver a genuine battery breakthrough, while the standard iPhone 18 Pro barely moves the needle. Chinese regulatory filings reveal the Pro Max will pack a 5,567 mAh cell — nearly 10% larger than the iPhone 17 Pro Max — while the Pro settles for 4,288 mAh, a gain of less than 1% over its predecessor.

The disparity suggests Apple is using the Pro Max's rumored thicker chassis to accommodate meaningful capacity growth, a strategy that hasn't been this pronounced in recent generations. Both models will share the same 48-megapixel Fusion camera with variable aperture, ending the pattern where the Max got camera features first.

Beyond physical dimensions and weight, the two devices are expected to be functionally identical. That makes battery life the decisive differentiator for buyers choosing between them this September.

If these figures hold, the Pro Max could finally deliver the multi-day endurance Android flagships have offered for years, while Pro buyers get essentially the same runtime as today. Apple appears to be betting that power users will pay the premium for the larger model — and that the Pro's stagnation won't push them toward competitors.
