Instagram expanded its Edits video editing app to the Mac this week, bringing a dedicated desktop editor to creators. Edits for Mac targets larger projects that benefit from a big screen and the precision of mouse and keyboard controls. The app includes Instagram's licensed and royalty-free audio libraries, sound and video effects, and unlimited automatic captions.
A full multi-track timeline, keyframes for dynamic transitions, and precise audio waveforms enable accurate cuts. Users can import LUTs or font files, and the app supports Model Context Protocol for AI agent integration. The Edits team notes that splitting, cutting, and trimming are easier on the desktop.
Videos can be published directly to Instagram or downloaded for other platforms. Multiple horizontal and vertical aspect ratios are supported, with 4K watermark-free export available. The app is available for download from the Instagram website.
