Claude Fable 5 Returns After Export Ban Lifted

Anthropic has restored access to its Claude Fable 5 model after the U.S. lifted export controls that halted service for foreign users. The Mythos‑class model debuted on June 9 and delivers strong performance in software engineering, knowledge work, vision and scientific research. Claude subscribers now see an in‑app option to select Fable 5, and the model remains available on Pro, Max, Team and select Enterprise plans.

Through July 7, users can consume up to half of their weekly quota on Fable 5 before credits become required; after that date the model runs on a credit basis. Once the credit limit is hit, users buy usage, aligning Fable 5 with Anthropic’s broader credit system. The Mythos‑class system outperforms Anthropic’s Opus line on lengthy, complex tasks and can run autonomously longer than any prior Claude release.

Export restrictions stemmed from a vulnerability discovered by Amazon researchers, who showed a prompt could bypass Fable’s safeguards and expose software flaws. Anthropic responded with a new classifier that blocks the technique in more than 99 percent of cases and has renewed cooperation with the U.S. government for pre‑release testing and information sharing.
