Apple pushed a new firmware update to AirPods Pro 3 owners today. The update carries version number 8B40, replacing the previous 8B39 that shipped with the earbuds. As with most AirPods firmware releases, Apple hasn't disclosed specific details about what improvements or fixes are included in this release.

The company maintains a support document with limited release notes, but these updates typically focus on bug fixes, stability improvements, and occasional tweaks to audio performance or connectivity. Users won't find major feature additions in point releases like this one.

To install the update, users need to place their AirPods in the charging case, connect the case to power, keep it closed, and wait at least 30 minutes while their iPhone, iPad, or Mac remains nearby over Wi-Fi. The AirPods Pro 3 launched last September at $249, offering improved noise cancellation and better battery life compared to its predecessor.

Looking ahead, Apple appears to be planning more significant changes to its audio lineup. Reports indicate the company is developing a new AirPods Pro model with built-in cameras, potentially arriving later this year.
