Apple has announced that customers have until 9 p.m. Pacific Time today to "get ready" for pre-orders of the iPhone Duo. By completing this process through Apple's online store or the Apple Store app, customers can "check out with a single click" when pre-orders go live on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time. The device launches on Friday, October 23.

The announcement comes as Apple's hardware engineering VP, Tom Marieb, spoke with Tech Radar about the device's crease. The iPhone Duo uses a matte nano-texture display designed to cut down on glare and minimize the visibility of the crease. When asked whether the crease would become more visible over time, as tends to happen with other foldables, Marieb offered candid comments about the issue.

Apple has also shared a curated gallery of six photos shot on the iPhone Duo on Instagram. The photos were taken by American photographers Jake Michaels and Jason Nocito as part of a project commissioned by Apple. The device is equipped with four cameras, including a rear 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera, a rear 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and a front 12-megapixel Center Stage camera on the outer display.

Production may be a concern ahead of launch. According to China's Jiemian News, citing a person close to Foxconn's supply chain, the iPhone Duo is facing production difficulties, with early output expected to be limited. Final assembly yields for Apple's first foldable iPhone were reportedly only slightly above 60% as of September 17.
